As we stepped foot onto the picturesque grounds of Lake Bratan, our rumbling stomachs reminded us that it was time for a much-needed feast. It was high noon, and hunger had stealthily crept upon us, leaving us weak with longing for sustainability. Our witty tour guide, with a mischievous grin, couldn’t help but tease us, claiming that out of all the guests they had guided, our group was the only one that sought food immediately upon arrival at each destination. Little did they know, we had an insatiable appetite for both adventure and gastronomic delights. With laughter in the air, our guide happily joined us, ready to embark on yet another culinary escapade, for they knew that a journey without indulgence in local delicacies is like a symphony missing its most delectable note.
Arriving at Lake Bratan and Ulun Danu Temple
Our visit to Lake Bratan and Ulun Danu Temple began with a hearty lunch at the restaurant conveniently located on the premises. As we wait for our meal, we couldn’t help but marvel at the stunning panoramic views of the lake and temple. It was the perfect way to prepare ourselves for the exploration that lay ahead.
“With contented bellies, our group embarked on a mission to find the perfect backdrop for our post-meal photo session. Amidst the laughter and playful banter, our eyes landed on our friend Lei Lani, striking a pose with an interesting name in the background . We couldn’t help but chuckle, knowing that if you asked anyone from the Visayas region, they would reveal the hilarious meaning behind that word. Inside jokes and shared moments like these were the spices that added an extra dash of joy to our travels , leaving us with memories that would forever bring a smile to our faces.”

With our appetites satisfied, we embarked on a mini photoshoot adventure. Lake Bratan offers an array of picture-perfect spots, each more captivating than the last. From the pristine shores of the lake to the enchanting temple architecture, we eagerly posed for count less snapshots , capturing memories that would forever adorn our social media feeds.
Exploring the Temple Grounds of Lake Bratan and Ulun Danu Temple :
Upon entering the temple complex, we were greeted by the soothing sound of water flowing from the fountains and the fragrant scent of incense. The meticulously maintained gardens and tranquil surroundings provided a serene atmosphere for contemplation and reflection. We marveled at the Intricate architectural details, Intricately carved stone reliefs, and unique tiered roof structures that characterize Balinese temple design.

As we look forward to our next adventure in Vietnam, we can’t help but feel a twinge of sadness knowing that Geff won’t be joining us, leaving us without our talented photographer. We’ll surely miss his unique perspective and the wonderful photos he would have captured.’
Observing Sacred Customs:
Visitors to Ulun Danu Temple are kindly reminded to dress modestly as a sign of respect for the sacredness of the site. Modest attire, covering shoulders and knees, is recommended. It is also customary to remove footwear before entering the temple premises, a practice we gladly adhered to as we embraced the local customs and traditions.
“For this particular destination, CG and I had the bright idea of purchasing matching batik shirts the day before. As we now gaze upon the photos, a hilarious realization dawns on us: we not only ended up “twinning,” but we also unintentionally resemble masseurs who escaped their work to explore this beautiful place. The coincidence leaves us in fits of laughter, as our attire adds an unexpected twist to our travel story. Sometimes, the most amusing memories are the ones that come by chance, and this comical fashion choice will forever be etched in our minds.”

While exploring the temple, we discovered the significance of the various shrines and pavilions, each dedicated to different deities and purposes. The tranquil ambiance, coupled with the breathtaking natural surroundings, provided the perfect backdrop for introspection and connection with the spi ritual essence of the place We took our time to absorb the serene atmosphere, offering silent prayers and immersing ourselves in the moment.

Getting to Lake Bratan and Ulun Danu Temple
To reach Lake Bratan and Ulun Danu Temple, we opted for a private car hire, which allowed us the flexibility to explore at our own pace. The temple is located in the Bedugul area of Bali, approximately 55 kilometers north of Denpasar. -connected by road, and the journey itself offers scenic views of Bali’s picturesque countryside.
