Larry Summers Questions House GOP’s Intent to Remove IRS Funding: “On…

former Minister of Finance Lawrence Sommer has questioned House Republicans Intent to prioritize ending “unnecessary” federal programs, including cutting $80 billion in funding for the Tax office.

“I just learned that @HouseGOP’s first initiative could be to protect tax fraudsters by trying to reverse last year’s investment in IRS modernization. For what sane reason can they object to the restoration of millionaire exam rates when they’ve fallen ~80% in the past decade?” Summers tweeted.

Currently, the biggest bottleneck for the Republican-led House of Representatives is that it cannot move forward until the new House Speaker is chosen. That House of Representatives adjourned the following Tuesday Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) failed to gain enough support in three consecutive votes be elected as speaker.

Summers further questioned the move by citing the former president donald trump‘s case and asks why funding the IRS looks so difficult.

“Why not give the IRS money to answer the phone, use 21st century technology and collect taxes from scammers targeting everyone but slayers? Does today’s Republican Party really think too much effort is being put into collecting taxes from families like the Trumps? asked Summers in a tweet.
