Living Waters Inc, a faith-based non-profit organization, will host the September 23 Summit. The event will focus on “Bridging the Health Equity Gap for Children and Families to Heal Grief and Loss”.
According to Mental Health America, nearly 50 million Americans suffer from a mental illness. NC ranks 12th in the US for mental health issues. The numbers are sobering in communities of color, where mental health often carries a stigma, forcing families to silently suffer grief and loss.
The summit will work to raise awareness, facilitate critical conversations and foster partnerships. Its ultimate goal is to address the health inequalities and inequalities that keep children and their families from the help they need to heal. In cooperation with Healthy Blue, the health department of the district of Mecklenburg and ReCAST Mecklenburg, the summit will:
● Promote strategies for health systems, social services and natural support networks to work together to support children and families experiencing grief and loss.
● Increase knowledge of evidence-based practices to help children and families heal from grief and loss.
● Increase access to resources to support caregivers, children and families in healing from grief and loss

The 2022 Mental Health Summit keynote speaker is Vergel L. Lattimore III, PhD. dr Lattimore is President and Professor of Pastoral Psychology and Counseling at Hood Theological Seminary.
