Market volatility continues to ease after US stocks post record gains

US stocks posted gains on Tuesday, with the S&P 500 settling at its strongest level in 2 1/2 months.

BestBuy Co., Inc BBY was the best-performing stock in the S&P 500, with the company’s stock up 12.8% on Tuesday. Best Buy reported better-than-expected third-quarter EPS and sales results.

However, Dollar Tree, Inc. DLTR Shares fell 7.8% after the company announced third-quarter results.

All major sectors of the S&P 500 ended positively, with energy and commodity stocks posting the biggest gains on Tuesday.

The Nasdaq 100 rose 1.48% to close at 11,724.84 on Tuesday amid gains Tesla Inc TSLA and apple inc AAPL. The S&P 500 was up 1.36%, while the Dow Jones jumped around 398 points to settle at 34,098.10 in the previous session.

The Chicago Board Options Exchange’s CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) fell 3.7% to 21.54 points.

The CBOE Volatility Index, popularly known as the VIX, is a measure of stock market volatility expectations based on call and put options of the S&P 500 index options.
