Market volatility spikes, S&P 500 settles lower

The S&P 500 moved lower Monday ahead of earnings reports of multiple gains.

Plunged 4% on Monday after the company released updated preliminary Q4 net sales results of about $454 million to $456 million, down from its previous guidance of $460 million at the low end. Traders are also awaiting Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s speech on Tuesday. Most sectors of the S&P 500 ended negatively, with information technology and communications services stocks posting the biggest drop on Monday.
