Maxine Waters says subpoena for Sam ‘definitely on the table’

Chairman of the Financial Services Committee of the US House of Representatives Rep. Maxine water (D.Calif.) said a subpoena for the former was “definitely on the table.” FTX chairman Sam Bankman Friedwho was asked to appear at a hearing on Dec. 13 to investigate the collapse of the cryptocurrency exchange.

What happened: On Wednesday, Waters tweeted that lies were being spread based on a CNBC article that appeared to indicate that she had no intention of subpoenaing SBF to testify at the hearing.

Waters asked SBF to attend the hearing on Saturday. However, he declined, stating that he would not appear before the committee until he was “done.” learn and check what happened‘ and he is ‘not sure’ if that would happen in time for the hearing.”

Waters made it clear that the information SBF had was sufficient to testify. She cited the numerous media interviews he gave following FTX’s bankruptcy as evidence that his knowledge was “sufficient for testimony” before the congressional committee.

She also indicated that the committee was keen to have him attend the hearing and was willing to hold further hearings should additional information need to be disclosed.
