Days later to secure more time for it Tesla Inc TSLACEO Elon Musk He’s reportedly taking direct control of hiring at the Texas-based electric vehicle company.

What happened: Musk instructed all vice presidents to send hiring requests from their departments to him once a week, according to Business Insider reported.

In an email Monday, Musk stated, “No one can join Tesla, even as a contractor, until you receive my email approval. Think carefully before sending me the request.” He added that he would like a “better understanding” of hiring at Tesla.

Tesla’s employee count reached 127,855 by the end of 2022which, according to the report, represents a significant increase over the previous year.

Why it matters: This isn’t the first time Musk has taken on human resources responsibilities at Tesla. Last year he called for a 10% job cut, citing concerns about the economy. It was also reported in 2019 that he required approval for all hiring of employees.

Last week, Musk resigned as CEO of Twitterpave the way for Linda Yaccarino. Musk said on Twitter: “Of course, signing Linda allows me to devote more time to Tesla, and that’s exactly what I will do!”
