The sanctions also require that any US citizen working in China’s semiconductor industry quit their job or risk losing US citizenship.
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reportedly convened a series of emergency meetings with leading semiconductor companies last week to assess the damage from the Biden government’s chip restrictions and pledge support for the critical sector.
Ministry officials seemed unsure of how to proceed. While they gave no indication of possible countermeasures, they stressed that the domestic IT market would provide sufficient demand for the affected companies to continue operations, the report added.
