Power purchase agreement agreed with private buyer to provide 135 GWh annually
AMSTERDAM And Oslo, Norway, February 20, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — MPC Energy Solutions (MPCES) has announced it has joined the company Guatemala after signing a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Comercializadora de Energía Para el Desarrollo SA, a subsidiary of Ingenio Magdalena SA (IMSA Group), the country’s leading producer and exporter of refined sugar, alcohol and energy. The planned solar photovoltaic (PV) project will have an installed capacity of 65 MWp. The development of the project will start immediately. MPCES plans to start construction in 12 months.
The Off-Taker is a subsidiary of IMSA Group. The group, which processes 6.5 million tons of sugar cane annually, is also the largest private energy producer in Germany Guatemala. IMSA Group also supplies 8% of it of Guatemala total energy consumption. The group has a total annual turnover of approx $500 million.
Today’s announcement comes as MPC Energy Solutions continues to grow its business Latin America and the Caribbean, with projects currently being developed, built or operated in eight countries in the region. This new project demonstrates the growing PPA demand from private companies Central America and is MPCES’ largest secured PPA to date.
