Tesla Inc TSLA CEO Elon Musk the electric vehicle maker said on Tuesday on track to set location for its new factory by the end of this year.
What happened: Amid growing curiosity about Tesla’s next manufacturing base, Musk said a site for a new factory will likely be chosen before the end of the year.
When asked by a Wall Street Journal journalist at an event whether India was interestingMusk underlined his enthusiasm with a clear “Absolutely,” reported Reuters.

Last week, Rajeev ChandrasekharIndia’s deputy technology minister told Reuters in an interview that Tesla was serious about establishing a manufacturing hub in the country.
The move comes in line with Tesla’s announcement earlier this year that it would open one Gigafactory in Mexico as part of its strategy to strengthen global production.
Why it matters: Tesla’s renewed interest in India comes nearly a year after the company shelved plans to sell electric cars in the country after failing to push through lower import taxes.
Reliance Jio, India’s telecom giant, has reportedly is in preliminary talks with the electric vehicle manufacturer on developing a dedicated private network for Tesla’s operations. However, the progress of these talks is dependent on Tesla confirming its intention to set up a manufacturing facility in India.
According to reports, top Tesla executives are also to hold talks with officials from the Indian government. The aim of these meetings is to explore potential opportunities for sourcing parts from India.
