New York Attorney General is suing Trump and three of his children over…

Former US President Donald Trump, three of his children and the Trump Organization are the targets of a broad lawsuit filed by the New York State Attorney General on Wednesday. The lawsuit alleged that the defendants were involved in a decade-long, large-scale fraud that enriched the former president.

What happened: Attorney General Letizia James alleged fraud by the Trump corporation, which included his properties and golf courses, in the more than 200-page lawsuit.

The civil lawsuit, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, alleged that the Trump Organization inflated the value of Trump’s real estate through false appraisals and deception of lenders, insurers and tax authorities.

Why it matters: James’ extensive investigation led to the filing of the lawsuit, which named 23 properties in Trump’s portfolio. These include the Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida, the Seven Springs property in Westchester County, New York, and a Washington, DC hotel that Trump leased from the federal government before selling in May.

James’ lawsuit has been dismissed as politically motivated by Trump and his attorneys, and they have consistently insisted that neither Trump nor any member of his family were involved in illegal business practices.
