Nursing student and mother of two becomes a musician at 27

Mei Tar Elbaz uses music to heal her soul and she strives to share it with the whole world.

It’s no longer news that people turn to art to unwind during challenging times in their lives. However, Mei Tar did not want to become a musician. In addition to looking after her children while her husband pursues a medical career, the mother of two is also studying nursing, a profession that is far removed from music. Still, her journey into music began when she released a song for her daughter called “I Held You.”

Her second piece of music, entitled Court St., came about after going through a really tough and lonely pregnancy with her son. What inspired the song music writer says: “On our first date, my husband and I watched Beauty and the Beast on Court Street in downtown Brooklyn. We’ve been through some really tough times in our marriage and this song is about going back to a place that has given me comfort.”
