Poison center calls are picking up in this state due to…

Virginia poison control centers recently revealed how often they deal with synthetic-related calls cannabis Products.

In 2022, there were more than 1,200 THC-related calls to three counties from poison control centers in the state to a local news outlet citing data.

cannabis sales are not fully legalized in the state. And so the market has alternatives derived from various cannabinoids like Delta-8 and other synthetic marijuana products to sell to users.

It is possible for a Delta 8 user to have a positive drug test for cannabis, Kelly Johnson Arbora medical toxicologist and interim executive director of the National Capital Poison Center, said.

Because Delta-8 is so readily available, many people use it for “basic conditions,” Johnson-Arbor added.

The number of calls received is probably not yet reported because people fear getting in trouble over the call, poison center workers said.

Last week, Republican Senator Declan O’Scanlon from New Jersey called the situation a public health problem and introduced a bill Regulate Delta-8 THC.
