The collapse of SVB Finance Group SIVB dominated the headlines over the weekend, with many financial experts, venture capitalists and economists.

Even a potential presidential candidate shared his thoughts on the bank and what might happen next.

What happened: Silicon Valley Bank was shut down by California’s Department of Financial Protection and Innovation on Friday. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) was named as receiver for the bank. The company fought to raise additional capital last week and saw account holders withdraw significant amounts of money, leading to liquidity questions. Shares declined significantly on both Thursday and Friday before the stock was halted. With reports stating that the FDIC will conduct an auction for Silicon Valley Bank assets, top votes like Bill Ackman Are call for the to step in and help the government.

While Florida governor Ron DeSantis has not yet declared that he will run for president in the 2024 presidential election, but he has

shares his thoughts on the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank on Sunday.

“This bank, they’re so concerned about DEA and politics and all kinds of things, I think that’s really kept them from focusing on their core mission,” DeSantis said told Maria Bartiromo via “Sunday Morning Futures,” while noting that he had no similar information about specific Florida banks or concerns about a bank run in the state.

“We have a massive federal bureaucracy and yet they never seem able to be there when we need them to prevent something like this. And so we’ll see what they do tomorrow,” he said.

The governor, widely predicted to be front runner in the presidential race should he announce his candidacy, called the collapse of the Silicon Valley bank disappointing.
