Russia Accidentally Drops Bomb On Own City, Damages Buildings And…

The Russian military has admitted that one of its warplanes accidentally dropped a bomb a Russian city.

An explosion occurred late Thursday Belgorodin a town about 25 miles from the border with Ukraine caused damage to buildings, Reuters reports.

“When an Air Force Sukhoi Su-34 aircraft flew over the city of Belgorod, an accidental launch of aviation munitions occurred,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Video footage uploaded to Twitter by Euromaidan Press on Friday shows the moment the explosion in Belgorod happened.

According to the Russian state TASS news agencythe incident occurred “due to an unusual take-off of aerial munitions during the flight of a Su-34 aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces.”

The Department of Defense said an investigation is ongoing but did not go into details about the dropped weapon. Military experts believe it was likely a powerful 1,100-pound bomb Associated Press.

Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of Belgorod province, reported that sappers investigating the site of Thursday’s explosion found an “explosive object” located “near residential buildings” and decided to detonate it, added Associated Press added.
