Shaquille O’Neal “Shaq” makes it resolutely clear: he does not support crypto and has never done so. This follows his involvement in the class action lawsuit against the defunct cryptocurrency exchange FTX FTT/USD last month a lawsuit stemming from his role in a June commercial promoting the exchange.
What happened: 50-year-old businessman and Basketball Hall of Famer O’Neal took part in an exclusive interview with CNBC Make It to discuss his relationship with FTX and his other business ventures.
Regarding FTX, O’Neal said he only plays as a celebrity in an ad. “A lot of people think I’m involved, but I was just a paid spokesperson for a commercial,” he said.

The class action lawsuit against O’Neal and other prominent FTX endorsers alleges that they “controlled, promoted, supported [or] Actively participated in an aggressive marketing plan to promote the company. That is also claimed Stephen Curry, Tom Bradyand LarryDavid all supported the company without disclosing material information to the public.
On Tuesday the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) made appalling allegations against it Sam Bankman Fried, founder and former CEO of FTX, claimed he was involved in a “brazen” years-long scam. The SEC claimed Bankman-Fried misused client funds to benefit himself and his crypto hedge fund Alameda Research.
Bankman Fried was arrested by the Bahamian authorities on Monday and is likely to be extradited.
