QUINCY, Mass., May 17, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — retail services (RBS), the services company of leading food retail conglomerate Ahold Delhaize USA, held its annual event Spring Day of Worship on Friday May 12th. This company-wide volunteer day is part of the company’s RBS Cares program, which recognizes the importance of supporting the local communities where employees live and work. Hundreds of employees across seven states have donned their work gloves and volunteered to support local sustainability efforts. In addition to time spent in the community, RBS donated a total of $42,500 to 11 nonprofits to further support their efforts to protect and beautify local public spaces.
RBS employees spent their Friday participating in several eco-friendly volunteer opportunities at their East Coast and Chicago markets:
- Scarborough, Maine: Alongside the South Portland Land Trust, RBS volunteers helped maintain and improve the South Branch and Clark’s Pond trails. Some also spent time at Pleasant Hill Preserve to improve boardwalk accessibility, remove invasive plants, and restore habitats. At Fuller Farm Preserve, volunteers hauled timber, built bog bridges and removed invasive plants. Both activities were run by the Scarborough Land Trust.
- Salisbury, NC: Volunteers picked up trash at Finch Park in Lexington. Some helped by land and water through a garbage sweep led by the Catawba Riverkeeper to clean up Belmont’s Kevin Loftin Riverfront Park. For those wanting to keep their shoes dry, there was also a cleanup at Kelsey Scott Park, a 21-acre park in Salisbury which has been taken over by RBS.
- Quincy, Massachusetts: Working with the Emerald Necklace Conservancy, employees picked up trash and cleared invasive shrubs from Franklin Park, Boston’s largest open space.
- Mauldin, South Carolina: RBS employees teamed up with Upstate Forever to pick up trash at Westside Park, the largest park in Greenville County, which is now…
