An error in there Tesla Inc TSLA Full Self-Driving (FSD) caused an accident involving eight vehicles on the Bay Bridge in San Francisco, according to the driver involved.

What happened: The driver of the 2021 Tesla Model S told police that FSD didn’t work, but the accuracy of his statements has yet to be determined, Reuters reported.

According to the police report, if the software didn’t work, the driver should have taken over the vehicle manually, according to the report.

Why it matters: The Thanksgiving Day accident on Interstate 80 near Treasure Island resulted in two youths being hospitalized for minor injuries and causing lengthy delays on the bridge, Reuters reported.

According to Reuters, the police report found that the Tesla vehicle made an unsafe lane change and slowed until it stopped, which resulted in another vehicle ramming it, leading to a cascade of accidents.

That National Road Safety Authority (NHTSA) investigates Tesla’s advanced driver assistance system.

Meanwhile the National Road Safety Committee (NTSB) has questioned that Elon Musk-guided companies to use the term full self-driving and called it “irresponsible”.
