The Fed’s Jerome Powell thinks his $190,000 salary is fair

One of the toughest and most unenviable jobs in America lately has been that of federal reserve chairman Jerome Powell — Tackle decades of high inflation while ensuring the economy is not adversely affected.

As the United States tackles rising prices, billionaire David RubensteinCo-Founder and Co-Chairman of The Carlyle Grouphad an interesting conversation with Powell about his salary.

“It’s about $190,000 I think,” Powell said when asked about his salary, according to a Video tweeted by Bloomberg TV.

Without dropping the matter, Rubenstein continued with further questions. “Okay, so you’re living on $190,000. What do you do when you have to sell something? Do you have to vacate it for 45 days?” he asked.

Powell replied that indeed it was. “That’s right. You know, if we have family expenses, if we have them that exceed my salary, then we have to sell an asset,” he said said the Fed chairman.

The conversation didn’t stop there. Rubenstein asked if Powell felt the number was appropriate for his job. Powell replied, “I do, yes.”

“Okay,” Rubenstein said, causing a burst of laughter from the audience.
