Indian business tycoon and billionaire Gautam Adani surpassed jeff bezos to become the second richest person in the world.

As Adani climbs the rankings the Bloomberg billionaire index, Elon Musk remains the number one richest person in the world at $260 billion.

In less than ten months, Adani has reached second place after starting the year in 14th place.

Adani’s net worth rose to $146.9 billion, mostly tied to holdings at its conglomerate Adani Group.

With a strong position in infrastructure and renewable energy, shares of some Adani Businesses are up more than 1,000% since June 2020. Adani Enterprises shares are up more than 115% in 2022.

In February, Adani overtook Indian Mukesh Ambani as Asia’s richest person. He later became a centibillionaire in April and surpassed Bill Gates and France Bernard Arnault in the last two months.

According to Bloomberg, Bezos’ net worth collapsed to $145.8 billion after tech stocks were hit hard by a broader stock sell-off. Amazon shares fell 3% in early trade, more than 25% in 2022.

Bezos was previously number one on the list, but his fortune took a hit following his 2019 divorce. Much of his wealth is tied up in Amazon stock. Since January, the tech sell-off has slashed Bezos’ net worth by $45 billion.
