Donald Trump’s The election campaign could not have started better for the former president with the prospect of arrest.
What happened: Donald Trump’s rally in Waco, Texas late Saturday was attended by thousands of his supporters – despite the fact that his niece Mary Trump had urged her supporters last week to book tickets and ensure her uncle found a completely empty venue. Mary Trump had also suggested that the ex-president would use his appearance as a ploy to “foment violent chaos to evade justice”.
Donald Trump landed his private jet in Waco — a city in central Texas — and took the stage amid “USA” chants from the crowd, video footage shared by local television station KWTX showed. As a choir composed primarily of people arrested in connection with the January 6 riots performed the song “Justice for All,” footage of the riot on Capitol Hill was shown on large screens.
The former president stood with his hands on his heart throughout the performance.
Waco is also the site of a 51-day standoff between federal authorities and the Branch’s Dravidian leader David Koresh that occurred in 1993. Almost 80 people were killed.
Criminal injustice: “Prosecutors’ misconduct is their new tool, and they stand ready to use it on a scale never before seen in our country. We’ve had it, but we’ve never had it like this,” Donald Trump said at the rally in reference to authorities conducting multiple criminal investigations against him.
“We have to stop them and we can’t allow them to go through another election where they have one more tool in their toolbox,” he added. “The thugs and criminals who corrupt our justice system will be defeated, discredited and utterly disgraced.”
The former president also tried to argue that his personal problems weren’t his only ones. “They’re not after me, they’re after you,” he told the crowd.
