Trump sides with Russia over potential Brittney Griner-Paul swap

Donald Trump speaks on the Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show, made it clear that he opposes recent prisoner swap talks that may or may not be held between the US and Russia with the WNBA star in attendance Brittney Griner and former Marine Paul Whelan for Viktor Bout- a convicted Russian arms dealer accused of selling arms to Al Qaeda and the Taliban.

Side with Russia? No surprise

Trump’s admiration for Wladimir Putin was seen during his tenure as President and lasted until recently when he described Putin’s Aggression towards Ukraine as “brilliant” and “very skilled”. Trump said the Russian military will “keep the peace in order” under Putin’s leadership, whom he called “a tough cookie” with “great charm.”

Although Trump seems to think that Brittney Griner is a spoiled brat who went to Russia “loaded with drugs”. Griner was actually returning to Russia to complete her seventh season with the country’s women’s professional basketball team when she was arrested by customs officers who found vapes containing cannabis oil in her suitcase.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist and seven-time WNBA All-Star had been legally prescribed medical marijuana by an Arizona doctor to treat sports-related injuries and pain, a fact that came out in one of their most recent attempts. Griner admitted she forgot to remove the cannabis oil from her bags.

Refers to Griner’s potential exchange for Bout, Trump said on the show, which aired on Friday: “I suppose she admitted it without too much force because of the way it is and it certainly doesn’t seem like a very good trade, does it? He is absolutely one of the worst in the world and he will get his freedom because a potentially spoiled person goes to Russia laden with drugs.”
