What’s next: Carlson seems “busy planning a media empire of his own,” according to Axios. Right-wing media outlets like Rumble and Newsmax are reportedly interested in hiring the controversial personality and are considering paying him more than he earned from Fox.
Carlson also had a conversation with Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk, although no details were discussed, Axios reported. Musk also owns the social media platform Twitter. Recently, one of the billionaire’s Twitter followers floated the idea hiring Carlson as part of a broader effort to create a video service that could compete with YouTube.
The former Fox News host is also reportedly toying with the idea of building a direct-to-consumer media company that would allow him to bill his viewers for a subscription.
“Now we go from peacetime to Defcon 1. He wants freedom,” one of Carlson’s close friends told Axios.
