VinFast VF8 SUVs face recall months after first delivery – Black Spade…

Vietnamese manufacturer of electric vehicles VinFast is recalling certain 2023 VF8 vehicles less than three months after initial delivery, citing a software issue.

What happened: The software issue can cause the Multi-Function Head Unit (MHU) display to go blank and not show important safety information such as the speedometer or warning lights. This, in turn, could increase the risk of a crash, the company said in a report filed with the US intelligence service National Road Safety Authority (NHTSA).

The company estimates that 999 vehicles will be affected. Of these, 111 are with customers and 153 in the fleet
Service and 735 with the EV manufacturer itself.

As a solution, VinFast will release an over-the-air software update starting Thursday. According to the company’s recall report, the fix can detect and fix the bug in less than 200ms.

Why it matters: VinFast entered the US market with the Delivery of 45 VF 8 City Edition SUVs March. It was also the electric vehicle maker’s first sale outside of Vietnam.

Earlier this month, VinFast a SPAC merger with Black Spade Acquisition Co BSAQ. The merger values ​​the company at $27 million enterprise value and is expected to close in the second half of this year.
