The Chinese foreign minister told his American counterpart that the US should stop containing itself China and avoiding obstacles between the two countries.
What happened: Xi Jinpingcabinet minister Wang Yi and US Secretary of State Anton Blinken held a phone call Monday to discuss relations between the two countries.
Wang Yi pointed out that putting China-US relations back on track with stable development is not only in the common interest of China and the US, but also in the general expectation of the international community. The US side should stop its efforts to contain and suppress China and not create new obstacles for relations between the two countries,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Wang told Blink that Export controls imposed by Washington on Beijing has severely damaged his legitimate rights and needs to be corrected, he added.
The foreign ministers discussed the Russian President Wladimir Putinwar in Ukraine and the threats it poses to global security and economic stability, the US State Department said in a statement.
Blinken and Wang also discussed the need to responsibly manage US-China relations, the department added.
The call lasted about 70 minutes and was productive and professional, according to the State Department spokesman Ned price.
“Any notion that our policies are directed against China or any other country around the world is not true. It is of course true that we have profound disagreements with the PRC (People’s Republic of China) on a number of issues,” Price said.
