FORNEBU, Norway, December 9, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Mainstream Renewable Power (“Mainstream”), the global renewable energy company majority-owned by Aker Horizons, Ocean Winds and Statkraft, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Aker Solutions Norway Cooperation on offshore wind power at Utsira Nord. Mainstream, Ocean Winds and Statkraft are part of a consortium to pursue an application to develop floating wind power in the Utsira North license area in 2023.

The consortium and Aker Solutions will jointly develop sustainable and cost-effective technologies spanning design, engineering, manufacturing and installation initiatives, as well as other innovative solutions and new technologies to reduce costs. The collaboration aims to further develop and strengthen capabilities across the Norwegian supply chain norway Competitiveness in the floating wind.

Combining Mainstream’s experience in offshore wind development and five decades of North Sea expertise in offshore development, execution and vessel operations as a member of the Aker group of companies, Ocean Winds’ experience in the design, construction and operation of land and floating offshore -plants wind farms worldwide and Statkraft’s extensive expertise in development, operation and management of renewable energy, the consortium covers the entire value chain from development to delivery of clean offshore energy to the market.

Mainstream and Ocean Winds, the ENGIE and EDPR joint venture dedicated to offshore wind energy, are currently developing two projects with an estimated capacity of 3 GW floating offshore wind energy in the United Kingdom and South Korea. Statkraft and Mainstream have a separate and established partnership for the development of ground-based offshore wind energy in Norway.
