As Apple said goodbye, YouTube is reportedly in advanced talks for the NFL…

After this apple inc AAPL allegedly withdrew from the talks with the National Football League about sunday card rights, alphabet inc Google GOOD video platform youtube is said to be in advanced talks to secure it.
What happened: The agreement between the NFL and YouTube could be reached as early as Wednesday after the meeting of the owners of the major professional sports league. reported The Wall Street Journal cited people familiar with the matter.

Discussed terms were not identified by the journal. The Sunday Ticket allows subscribers to watch games outside of the market on Sunday afternoons.

However, the scenario currently being discussed would reportedly allow viewers to watch the games on two subscription services – YouTube TV and YouTube Primetime.

DirectTV has held the rights to the Sunday ticket for years. According to a , Google has talked about paying $2.5 billion a year, $1 billion more than DirecTV report from the New York Times.

Google and NFL did not immediately respond to gasoline gas requests for comment.

Why it matters: The addition of Sunday Ticket would be a bonus to YouTube’s streaming efforts as it seeks to generate subscription revenue, the Journal noted.

Nielsen data cited by the magazine shows that YouTube is gaining popularity among TV viewers as it has overtaken Netflix Inc NFLX 2022 as the most-watched service on TV for the first time.

YouTube TV already has ESPN on its platform, and the NFL deal could make Google a major force in sports broadcasting, according to the report.

Apple pulled out of the NFL Sunday Ticket negotiations as it reportedly wanted to offer Apple TV+ subscribers at no extra cost and the NFL wasn’t very keen on the move.
