Jack Dorsey Says He’s Working To Make A $1M Grant For The Tor Project -…

block inc Q chairman Jack Dorsey says he’s working on the grant 1 million dollars a year to the Tor project.

What happened: The Twitter co-founder announced this on Twitter on Thursday.

Tor is short for The Onion Router, which is operated by the non-profit organization The Tor Project monitors internet censorship around the world.

Existing supporters of the project include the United States Department of the State Office for Democracy, Human Rights and Labour and the Agency for Defense Advanced Research Projects (DARPA) through Georgetown University.

Why it matters: The former Twitter CEO has outlined various plans related to open source technologies. He recently wrote a newsletter urging it a “free and open” protocol for social media.

The post also highlighted his own shortcomings with Twitter, expressing his dissatisfaction with the platform in its current avatar.

Dorsey recently said he plans to open one new funding category with the goal of engineering teams working on social media, communication protocols, Bitcoin BTC/USDand a web-only mobile operating system.

Dorsey, a bitcoin bull, has previously outlined Block’s Bitcoin-centric future.
