Selenskyj also pointed this out Russia suffered 1,500 ‘sanitary casualties’ – the soldiers who were wounded badly enough to prevent them from further action. He added that dozens of enemy equipment were destroyed, as were more than 10 Russian ammunition depots.

The The eastern Ukrainian city has become a hotspot in a grueling war of attrition for Russia that has been trying to last for months. Capturing Bakhmut would bring Moscow one step closer to its goal of controlling the entire Donetsk region – one of four areas in eastern and southern Ukraine annexed by Russia last year.

Putin’s ally Yevgeny Prigozhinled private mercenary group Wagner is at the center of the Russian attack on Bakhmut. Prigozhin risked his reputation and that of his private army to conquer Bakhmut.

The situation in the city is “difficult, very difficult, the enemy is fighting for every meter,” Prigozhin said in a voice recording published on Telegram on Sunday, adding we “will start recruiting new people from the regions.”
