donald trump praised the victory of Christian Ziegler above EvanPower in the Florida Republican Party presidential election on Sunday.

What happened: The race was reportedly viewed as a “proxy” fight between the former president and the Republican governor of Florida Ron DeSantis.

Trump said on Truth Social, “We won a major presidency over the DeSantis Reps in Florida, but actually it’s a win for EVERYONE. That’s how we want it. Christian will be a great chairman.”

The former US leader also shared one Article by Politico in the post, noting that some DeSantis supporters fear the development is a “huge Florida win for Trump.”

Ziegler, a Republican policy adviser, has worked with former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, according to Politico, but supported DeSantis when he first took office in 2018.

Why it matters: Ziegler defeated Power 126-100 at the poll. The winning nominee was previously the party’s vice chair, while Power was the statewide GOP chair of chairmen and led the Leon County Republican Party, Politico noted.

While Trump’s team reportedly underscored the importance of Ziegler’s win, Team DeSantis downplayed the win.

An unnamed Trump aide said chair races “should be important for people running for president,” Politico reported.

A DeSantis consultant said, according to the report, “Both our boys won and we look forward to working with them.”
