What happened: White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierreaboard Air Force One, said the US had no hostile intentions towards North Korea and continued to seek diplomacy with the country, adding that she was aware of the isolated country’s recent law.

“As we have said and publicly noted by North Korean officials, including Kim Jong-un, we continue to seek diplomacy and stand ready to meet without preconditions. The DPRK remains unresponsive,” she said.
North Korea’s “supreme leader” said Friday the new law would make its nuclear status “irreversible” and ban denuclearization talks.
“The greatest importance of legislation on nuclear weapons policy is to draw an irretrievable line so that there can be no negotiations on our nuclear weapons,” Kim said in a speech to the Supreme People’s Assembly.
Meanwhile the United Nations The Secretary-General said he was “deeply concerned” by the new law and again urged Pyongyang to return to denuclearization talks. The UN has long imposed sanctions on North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs.
