ZURICH and HORSHOLM, Denmark, November 11, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The VELUX Group has entered into a partnership agreement with Novelis, the world’s largest aluminum recycler, to enable Novelis to supply flat-rolled aluminum with a high recycled content for use in VELUX roof windows. This partnership will contribute to VELUX’s goal of halving emissions from the value chain by 2030.

The multi-year partnership agreement between Novelis and VELUX aims to achieve less than 4.0 kg CO2 emissions per kilogram of rolled aluminum supplied by the end of 2024, which is well below half the average carbon footprint of the primary aluminum used Europe. The partners are aiming for further CO2 reductions by 2030.

The aluminum will have around 70% recycled content, which is an increase of around 30% over what Novelis is currently supplying to VELUX. Recycling aluminum requires only 5% of the energy and emits up to 95% less CO2 than producing primary aluminium.

With more than 94 percent of the VELUX Group’s carbon footprint coming from materials used in its products, value chain collaboration is key to halving its Scope 3 and product emissions by 2030. These targets are in addition to the 100 percent reduction target for the group for Scope 1 and 2 emissions, also by 2030.
