WWE to Legalize Betting on Scripted Games in 2 States: Report…

World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. WWE held talks with the state gambling controller on Colorado And Michigan Legalize betting on scripted match outcomes.

What happened: The professional wrestling promotion works with an accounting firm EY (Ernst & Young) to secure the results of scripted games, to convince regulators that the results will not be leaked publicly, reported CNBC, citing people familiar with the matter.

WWE and state regulators did not immediately respond to Benzinga’s request for comment on the development.

Why it matters: If gambling is allowed at scripted events, it could also be allowed for similar events like character deaths on television shows, CNBC noted.

Big accounting firms like PwC and EY are reportedly already working with awards shows like the Academy Awards and Emmys to keep the results secret.

According to the report, allowing gambling could change the way games are produced and storylines created.

WWE is scheduled to meet with potential buyers of the company next month to prepare for first-round bids, CNBC reported, citing two people familiar with the matter.
