On the first try, he taped the AirTag to the top of the spare tire in the woman’s car “because he thought the victim was having an affair.” But Apple’s built-in security measures kicked in, and the woman was warned that an AirTag was tracking her movements. She went to the Bettendorf, Iowa Police Department to report it. Shawver also showed up at the police station. He told officers he put the AirTag on the woman’s car because he believed she was having an affair at the train station, so he got to the station. At that time there were no arrests.

The second time, authorities found the device in a plastic sandwich bag lying on top of a spare tire. The third time, the AirTag was on the car’s subframe near the passenger tire.

Shawver is currently being held in the Polk County Jail on $3,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 19.

Although Shawver stated that he and the victim were married, the duo never had a relationship, the report said, citing court records.
