CAPREIT announces appointment of new Board of Trustees member and…

TORONTO, Feb. 22, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Canadian Apartment Properties Real Estate Investment Trust AUTOMOBILE (“CAPREIT”) is pleased to announce that Ms. Jennifer Stoddart has joined the Board of Trustees of CAPREIT (the “Board of Directors”) effective February 27, 2023.

CAPREIT also announced that Jamie Schwartz has resigned from the Board of Directors effective February 22, 2023 to focus on his other responsibilities. Mr. Schwartz has been a trustee of CAPREIT since his appointment to the board in 2018.

Ms. Stoddart is a Strategic Advisor in the Privacy and Cybersecurity Group at Fasken LLP, where she advises on privacy matters.

Ms. Stoddart was Canada’s Data Protection Commissioner from 2003 to 2013. Previously, from 2000 to 2003, she chaired the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec. She has also held positions on the Human Rights Commissions of Canada and Quebec.

Ms. Stoddart was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada “for her international leadership on data protection rights and for her exemplary public service as Data Protection Commissioner of Canada”. The Quebec Bar Association has awarded her Advocatus Emeritus and Christine Tourigny Award of Merit, and the Université du Québec à Montréal has awarded her the Prix Reconnaissance for her work on advocating Canadian privacy rights. She has twice been named one of the 25 most influential women lawyers in the justice system and legal profession in Canada by Canadian Lawyer magazine. She has also received honorary doctorates from the University of Ottawa and McGill University.

Ms. Stoddart has served on the Responsible Research Committee, reporting to the Chief Scientist of Québec, served on the Board of Directors of Génome Québec, and was a visiting scholar at the Center of Genomics and Policy at McGill University School of Medicine.
