Tesla, Inc. TSLA chairman Elon Musk, is a very public figure, and invariably on Twitter, he wears his heart on his sleeve. But there are some not very public dimensions of the billionaire that are quite interesting.

A podcast that aired earlier this month gave a glimpse into Musk’s professional life and his interactions with the workforce.

When Musk micromanages an employee, it’s a signal that he’s likely to fire that person soon, he said Karl Medlock, who worked at Tesla between 2009 and 2013 as a regional manager. Melock appeared on The Iced Coffee Hour podcast.

The former Tesla employee suggested Musk hire capable hands and let them do their job. He’s smart, and he knows how to hire smart people, Medlock said.

When asked if Musk socializes in the workplace, Medlock said he would do so when he needed to talk and not otherwise. Musk would never joke and is usually “stoic and strict” and very disciplined, Medlock added.

Medlock also shared a story about photographing the billionaire sleeping on his desk. In the office, Musk didn’t act like a celebrity and acted like a regular guy, he added.

The Tesla CEO, according to Medlock, was very connected to his children. When he was with his children, nobody spoke to him and the place would be quiet, he suggested. Everyone took care of Musk and his children, he added.

Medlock also revealed that Musk does not tolerate employees arguing with him. Musk stood up at the end of the meetings and said that that was the direction they were going and you were going along.

“It’s not for people who disagree. He just lets you go and you’re just gone,” he said.
