DeSantis atrophies, Trump smashes GOP field but Biden dominates…

The 2024 presidential election is over a year and a half away, but three frontrunners continue to fight close battles in the polls and betting odds. New poll data shows a big shift among the three candidates.

What happened: Governor of Florida for many months Ron DeSantis has advanced in the Republican race against the former president donald trump. Now DeSantis fades when Trump faces one possible prosecution and arrest.

DeSantis has topped or even risen with Trump in most polls this week. The surge in popularity comes as Trump has officially announced his candidacy and DeSantis did not give notice his official plans.

But a new one Opinion poll by Morning Consult shows DeSantis with only 26% support in a hypothetical Republican primary. This marks the lowest level for DeSantis since December.

Trump tops the list with 54% support in the Morning Consult poll.

The top two candidates rank well ahead of other current and potential competitors. Former Vice President Mike Pence Third place with 7% support. nikki haley, who is officially expires in 2024, Fourth place with 4%. Former Congressman Liz Cheney Fifth place with 3% of the votes.

When asked about the second choice for President, DeSantis fared much better. DeSantis received 46% of the second-choice vote from those who first picked Trump. Pence was second with 17% and Haley third with 6%.

When asked about the second choice for President from those who picked DeSantis first, Trump received 43% of the vote. Pence and Haley took second and third place with 16% and 15%, respectively.

In hypothetical matchups against the President Joe BidenDeSantis received 41% of the vote versus 43% for Biden. Meanwhile, Trump also received 41% of the vote in a hypothetical matchup with Biden, who received 44% of the vote.
