Leading warehouse retailer Costco Wholesale Corp COSTS says the retailer will keep its price of the hot dog and soda combo at $1.50 even as inflation continues to rise.

CFO of Costco Richard Galanti confirmed the price will not change during the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call on Thursday, according to New York post.

What happened: Costco’s position on keeping the price unaffected was originally laid out during its earnings conference call in May, when the company responded to rumors of a price increase for its hot dog and soda combo and earlier to comments about increasing the price of its annual membership received.

“I would like to address some misinformation being propagated on social media and some other media, alleging that we have increased the price of our hot dog and lemonade combos sold in our food courts. Today’s price is $1.50 and we have no plans to increase the price at this time,” said Costco senior vice president Bob Nelson said.

Nelson said the price started at $1.50 in the mid-1980s and has stayed at that price since its inception.

Nelson also used the earnings call to address comments about a potential membership fee increase for his clients.

“Given the current macro environment, historically high inflation and the strain it is putting on our members and all consumers in general, we believe it is not the right time to increase our membership fee today ahead of our typical time,” Nelson said .

Costco ended the third quarter with 27.9 million paid memberships, up about 800,000 from the end of the second quarter.

Why it matters: A rumor circulated on social media that Costco increased the price of its hot dog and soda combo by $1 due to inflation. The combo is known as one of several membership benefits.
