Dow Up 150 points; US Weekly Job Claims Rise – Solo Brands…

US stocks traded higher this morning with the Dow Jones up around 150 points on Thursday.

After Thursday’s market open, the Dow was up 0.46% to 32,948.78, while the NASDAQ was up 0.27% to 11,607.61. The S&P 500 was also up 0.36% to 4,006.30.

Leading and lagging sectors

  • Energy stocks rose 1.6% on Thursday. Meanwhile top winner in the sector included KLX Energy Services Holdings, Inc. KLXEby 17% and VETincreased by 5%.
  • Financial stocks fell 0.7% in Thursday trading.

US initial jobless claims rose 21,000 from the previous week to 211,000 for the week ended March 4, ahead of the market estimate of 195,000.

Stock trading UP

  • Ocean Biomedical, Inc. OCEA Shares rose 81% to $8.47 after the company received detailed research data on discoveries of anti-tumor signaling pathways and their potential for treating non-small cell lung cancer, metastatic melanoma and glioblastoma from scientific co-founder Dr. Jack A. Elias, MD.
  • shares of Solo Brands, Inc. error code got a boost, rising 23% to $4.94 after the company announced better-than-expected Q4 results.
  • toro corp TORO Shares were also higher, gaining 38% to $5.32.

Stocks are trading down

  • Silvergate Capital Corporation S.I Shares fell 38% to $3.0601 after the company said it would cease operations and voluntarily liquidate Silvergate Bank.
  • shares of SVB Finance Group SIVB declined 35% to $173.01 after Silicon Valley Bank’s parent company announced planned offerings of common stock and convertible preferred stock.
  • Fulcrum Therapeutics, Inc. FULC fell 24% to $4.76. Fulcrum Therapeutics posted a loss of $0.50 per share for the fourth quarter.
