George Santos 2017 ‘Puppies’ scam emerges: Bounced checks to…

representative George Santos (RN.Y.) was reportedly charged with theft in Pennsylvania after a series of bad dog breed checks were written in his name.

What happened: After the checks for $15,125 were written for “puppies,” an adoption event was held at a Staten Island pet store with the congressman’s animal rescue organization. reported Politically.

Santos claimed his checkbook was stolen, after which the charges were dismissed and records deleted, the report, which cited his lawyer and the court, said.

Lawyer Tiffany BogosianHe, who had gone to school with Santos and later lost touch with him, caught up with the congressman in late 2019.

The attorney said Santos came to her office on Feb. 15, 2020, and she tried to help him as a friend on the controls matter, Politico reported.

Bogosian said Santos was reportedly awoken at his home at 4 a.m. by NYPD officers serving him an extradition warrant related to the Pennsylvania theft charge.

Why it matters: Santos told Bogosian that he “cancelled” the checkbook at his bank as soon as he noticed it was missing “days after receiving it.”

The representative told Bogosian that he couldn’t have any pending charges against him because he was in politics and went to Pennsylvania, where he convinced prosecutors to drop the charges, Politico reported.

A York County official in Pennsylvania reportedly confirmed that the record was deleted in November 2017.

It recently emerged that Santos told a Brazilian podcast that it was him attacked in broad daylight on Fifth Avenue and his shoes and watch were stolen. He also told his interviewers about an attempt on his life.
