Google employees manually correct Bard’s answers – Alphabet…

alphabet inc GOOD Google reportedly improves the accuracy of its latest language model for dialog applications, bard – through the manual contribution of its employees.

What happened: Last week, Google presented its chatbot Bard at a launch event. It highlighted how the chatbot could provide text summaries of search results on questions – but Bard gave an incorrect answerwhich led to a lot of public backlash and sparked a debate about the accuracy of the chatbot.

On Wednesday, Google’s Vice President of Search, Prabhakar Raghavanemailed employees asking them to help the company ensure its AI-powered chatbot gets the right answers, reported CNBC.

The internal memo in question included a link to a do’s and don’ts page with detailed instructions on how Google employees could correct the answers while they tested Bard internally.

“Bard learns best by example. So taking the time to carefully rewrite an answer will help us greatly in improving the mode,” the document reads.

Why it matters: Previously Google CEO Sundar Pichai asked staff to spend at least two to four hours exploring and trying out Bard. He acknowledged that getting Bard to a level where it can become a reliable platform will be a long road for everyone, the report said.

Pichai faces criticism and ridicule from staff and users how the launch of Bard was handled. In posts on Google’s internal forum “Memegen,” employees described the problematic launch as “hasty,” “botched,” and “un-googley.”
