Maryland GOP lawmakers protect gun rights for MMJ patients

The Maryland legislature reviewed a Republican law Robin Grammer and his four GOP fellow lawmakers at Wednesday’s hearing that would protect the medicine marijuana Patients’ rights to own guns, Marijuana Moment reported.

The move follows a recent Oklahoma Verdict that a federal law prohibiting cannabis users from owning firearms is unconstitutional.

“An individual shall not be denied the right to purchase, possess or carry a firearm under this title solely on the basis that the individual is authorized to use medicinal cannabis,” the bill reads.

Grammer said her bill addresses the fact that state law allows medical cannabis cardholders to carry firearms but not buy them.

“You can still get a permit to carry it, but you just can’t buy a firearm,” he said called. “If you have it [medical cannabis] card you lose your rights. It’s not about buying, possessing or using cannabis – your status as an eligible patient is what becomes your undoing.”

New CA law to allow marijuana catering services

After a push to allow cannabis dispensaries to sell food and beverages, California lawmakers are now trying to qualify marijuana for serving marijuana at private events, KTLA reported.

Assembly Bill 471 by Assemblymember Ash Karla (D-San Jose) would add language to current cannabis law to allow cannabis “catering” for private events.

Under the measurewould cannabis companies have the opportunity to obtain catering licenses.

However, the new law also imposed some restrictions, including the number of private catering events at a given location during a year and a ban on the provision of alcoholic services.
