LAS VEGAS, January 8, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE), the intermediate holding company of HD Hyundai, is teaming up with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) to take another step toward the development of unmanned vessels that can navigate and perform safety diagnostics can without human help. KSOE signed a memorandum of understanding with ABS to develop and demonstrate automated machinery and integrated safety control systems in autonomous ships 6th January in Las Vegas during CES 2023. The MOU signing ceremony was attended by: Kisun ChungPresident and CEO of HD Hyundai and KSOE; Sunjoon KimSenior Executive Vice President (SEVP) of KSOE; jeon seung-ho, senior executive vice president of Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and ABS Christopher J Wiernickimanaging director and patrick ryanCTO.

“We plan to work with ABS on the demonstration project for an AI-based LNG fuel propulsion system (Hi-GAS+), which won the CES 2023 Innovation Award,” said Sunjoon Kim, SEVP and head of the Advanced Research Center of the KSOE. “Through the MOU, we hope to further expand our lead in unmanned technology that enables autonomous navigation and self-diagnosis of equipment and safety.”
