The US Department of Justice filed charges against Congressman George Santos on Tuesday a report by CNN.

As the charges are still under wraps, the exact nature of the charges is not known, but the report speculates that they may stem from a pattern of misstatements in Santos’ financial reports, as well as other allegations.

Santos has quickly built an infamous reputation on Capitol Hill for his various claims that appear to be untrue.

For example, Santos said he was a volleyball star at Baruch College and graduated in 2010. But school officials said there was no record of him being in class or on the volleyball team.

Santos represents a borough that partially includes Queens and Long Island, New York.

In addition to lying about his past, Santos has been accused of violating campaign finance laws, falsifying financial statements and more.

Santos admits to spreading untruths about his past, such as the Baruch stories, but denies more serious allegations, such as violating campaign finance laws.

Despite many calls to resign, Santos said he would remain in office.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy intervened, saying he would review the charges before deciding whether or not to ask Santos to resign. Many Democrats and some Republicans had previously called on Santos to resign. Those calls could increase with the new Justice Department fees.
