NGen Receives Additional $177 Million Investment from Government of…

HAMILTON, Ont., Feb. 13, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Next Generation Manufacturing Canada (NGen), the industry-led organization behind Canada’s Global Innovation Cluster for Advanced Manufacturing, is pleased to announce a $177 million investment from the Canadian government. The 2022 budget reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to the clusters with an additional investment of US$750 million through 2028 to support the continued growth and development of Canada’s global innovation clusters.

The Global Innovation Clusters program was created as a new approach to innovation through co-investments with industry to build accelerated, strong ecosystems that bring innovators faster through collaboration. This unique model has proven successful in creating stronger ecosystems, minimizing technology adoption, maximizing intellectual property value and forging new partnerships that increase companies’ market potential. Going forward, there will be an increased focus on coordinated multi-cluster collaboration, with clusters bringing their respective industries together to tackle big, real-world problems.

With the renewed funding, NGen will leverage Canada’s research, technology and manufacturing strengths to develop, scale up and commercialize transformative solutions in advanced manufacturing. Future NGen funding calls will specifically focus on opportunities across the zero-emission vehicle value chain, decarbonization of manufacturing processes and circular manufacturing of materials, as well as other strategic, world-leading advanced manufacturing initiatives.
