Russian President Wladimir Putin approved a master plan for the development of the Ukrainian city of Mariupol – a month after he ordered the building of social facilities in the city.

What happened: On Friday, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Chuznullin Putin has presented a 100-page master plan for the restoration and development of Mariupol, according to the state news agency TASS.

Khusnullin told the media that it would take three years to restore the city under the plan, which involves building and repairing apartment blocks and social infrastructure facilities.

“I can say that this year we will restore 90% of social infrastructure facilities – kindergartens, schools, hospitals.” He said.

The publication noted that Khusnullin paid special attention to the issue of Azovstal Metallurgical Plant – one of the largest steel rolling companies in Ukraine.

According to him, the plan is to preserve some jobs but not revive dangerous production lines.

“But there are about 40 million tons of waste there. This is an ecological problem. The area needs to be cleared,” he said, adding that the Ukrainian authorities did nothing to solve this issue.

This happened after the Russian authorities started building social facilities in Mariupol in late June.
