Russian President Wladimir Putin said he wants End the war in Ukraine while warning that the US Patriot missile system will not stand in the way of Moscow achieving its “goals”.

What happened: Putin, on Thursday, after the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the White House, spoke of the end of the Ukraine war and hinted at it would inevitably involve a diplomatic solution.

“Our goal is not to turn the flywheel of the military conflict, but on the contrary to end this war,” Putin said, according to Reuters.

“All armed conflicts end in one way or another with some kind of negotiations through diplomatic channels,” Putin said, adding: “We will strive for an end, and the sooner the better, of course.”

“Sooner or later, all parties to the conflict will sit down and come to an agreement. The sooner this realization comes to those who oppose us, the better. We never gave up on that,” Putin added.

The Russian leader’s remarks were quickly criticized by White House spokesman John Kirby, who said Putin has shown “absolutely no sign that he is willing to negotiate“The end of the war.

“Everything he (Putin) is doing on the ground and in the air is a testament to a man who wants to continue to use violence against the Ukrainian people (and) to escalate the war,” Kirby told the media.
