On May 2, 2023, Hindenburg Research (“Hindenburg”) released a report alleging that Icahn was significantly overvalued and operating a “Ponzi-like economic structure.” The Hindenburg report specifically claimed that “Icahn used money raised from new investors to pay dividends to old investors” and claimed that Icahn sells partnership interests to new investors to support dividend payments to existing investors.
As a result of this news, Icahn’s stock price fell $10.06 per share, or 19.95%, to close at $40.36 per share on May 2, 2023.
