Tesla Inc TSLA announced Friday on Twitter the North American charging standard (NACS) to charge North American charging infrastructure.

The NACS standard is based on Tesla’s existing charging port. According to Tesla, “NACS vehicles outnumber CCS by two to one, and Tesla’s supercharging network has 60% more NACS stations than all CCS-equipped networks combined.”

According to Tesla, the NACS standard is use case and communication protocol agnostic and easy to apply, with a link to documentation available directly on Tesla’s website.

Grid operators already have plans to roll out NACS, which means Tesla owners will soon have even more charging options alongside the Tesla Supercharger grid, which is readily available in North America.

If competitors make electric vehicles with Tesla’s charging port, those vehicles could theoretically be charged on Tesla’s already established Supercharger network.

Exact release dates for new chargers with NACS have not been shared other than that they are coming soon.
