Tesla Goes Full Throttle at Giga Texas: Weekly Model Y Performance Reaches…

Elon Musk-LED Tesla Inc TSLA said Tuesday that it had reached a new milestone for Model Y vehicle production at its Gigafactory in Texas.

What happened: Tesla has achieved production of 5,000 Model Y vehicles in Austin in one week, the company announced on Twitter.

“Giga Texas hits production of 5,000 Model Ys/week,” Tesla tweeted, along with a 10-second video of the factory workforce celebrating.

Why it matters: Production at the Gigafactory has increased nearly 67% in less than five months. In December, Giga Texas built 3,000 Model Ys in one week. Tesla announced it had built 4,000 Model Ys in a week in April.

Texas is a production center for the Model Y and the Cybertruck. The Cybertruck was first introduced in 2019 and is expected to do so Start of production later this year.

The company’s Berlin Gigafactory, which focuses on the manufacture of Model Ys and battery cells, reaches a weekly production capacity of 5,000 vehicles End of March, praise from the CEO Elon Musk.
